About The Sherwin Story
Sherwin Family Vineyards, perched at the pinnacle of Spring Mountain, began its remarkable journey in 1996. Steve and Linda Sherwin made the decision to leave behind the frenetic pace of their Bay Area lives and embrace the quiet beauty of the Mayacamas Range’s eastern slope. With the guidance and support of close friends, they acquired a picturesque 30-acre property and soon set about realizing their new dream. Their first wine, the 1996 Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, made its debut in 1999, marking the beginning of what would become a cherished family legacy.
On September 28th, 2020, disaster struck Sherwin Family Vineyards. The Glass Fire, which would go on to burn for almost a month and consume close to 70,000 acres, burned the winery to the ground. A life’s work, up in smoke. However with perseverance, it would not be an end, but a new beginning.
Today the estate’s tasting room and expansive patios offer breathtaking vistas of the surrounding vineyards and lake. This idyllic setting provides a welcome retreat from the ordinary, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty and tranquility of our mountain estate. The Sherwin legacy lives on through Steve & Linda’s son, Matt, who now serves as the estate’s General Manager and Winemaker. With his father’s ongoing support and guidance, Matt continues to uphold the family’s deep-rooted commitment to producing exceptional wines and providing genuine, heartfelt hospitality.
Our Team
At Sherwin Family Vineyards, our team is here to ensure that you have a memorable experience. We can't wait to welcome you!
Steve & Linda Sherwin Proprietors
Steve and Linda Sherwin founded Sherwin Family Vineyards with their inaugural 1996 vintage of Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. For years, the two of them managed every aspect of the winery—from running the tasting room to overseeing wine production—before bringing on Donna, and eventually their son Matt, to help. Their goal has always been to make visitors feel as though they’re being welcomed into their home, where customers quickly become part of the extended family. With a dedication to hard work and crafting premium wines that highlight their mountaintop estate, Steve and Linda warmly invite guests to experience their slice of paradise.
Matt Sherwin Winemaker & General Manager
Matt, a second-generation vintner and winemaker, has spent his entire life immersed in the vineyard and family winery. From a young age, he learned the art of winemaking alongside his father, gaining hands-on experience and wisdom from the community of winemakers around him. He discovered early on that winemaking is more than just a craft—it's an expression of the land itself, with each bottle capturing the unique story of its time and place.
Now as the lead winemaker, Matt continues the Sherwin Family tradition, upholding the vineyard's commitment to excellence and hospitality. He strives to create wines that not only showcase the rich terroir but also embody the family's values. With a deep connection to the vineyard, Matt is also looking toward the future with his new son, Chet, continuing the legacy of dedication and passion for winemaking.
Milo Sanchez Cellar Master
Milo, the cellar master at Sherwin Family Vineyards, is a true jack of all trades who plays a vital role in the winery's success. Having worked with the family for years, Milo helps oversee the day to day winemaking tasks, maintains equipment, and handles much of the vineyard work. We depend on Milo to ensure that things run smoothly and efficiently in the cellar. His hard work and hands-on approach are key to upholding the vineyard’s commitment to quality. When he is not at the winery, you can find Milo spending quality time with his family.
Matt Rapping Operations Manager
Hailing from Southern California, Matt Rapping spent 20 years managing food and beverage programs at luxury hotels all over the west coast and Hawaii. From casual to fine dining, craft cocktails to exciting wine programs, Matt has had his hand in it all. In 2021, he and his family moved to Napa Valley, where Matt decided to dive into the world of wine. Meeting the Sherwin Family through mutual friends, Matt came on board as the newly rebuilt tasting room was about to come back online in 2023. At the winery, he oversees operations, including the wine club, sales, marketing, and events. You will also find him hosting groups and getting dirty during harvest with the team in the cellar. Matt believes that hospitality should be personal and works hard to ensure that each customer that walks through our doors feels like their experience has been curated specifically for them. Outside of work, Matt enjoys the LA Dodgers, trying out new recipes, spinning records from his vinyl collection, and spending time with his wife Jenn and their kids, Bodhi and Zoe.
