2010 Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast

The 2010 Chardonnay was sourced from a gravelly, alluvial vineyard in Sonoma Coast that was planted in 1965 to the Old Wente clone of Chardonnay. The wine was barrel fermented and aged in 50% new French Oak barrels for 11 months. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered. The nose is a beautiful mélange of lemon zest, tropical fruit, truffle, flint, and clove. On the palate, the balance is immediately evident, with a juicy, Burgundian sense of minerality and lush fruit. There is lively acidity, but the wine is also rich – a vestige of its sunny origins in California.
